Project 10

Malacca... I used to calling "u" as happy life yesteryear.

From wikkipedia, Malacca is the third smallest in Malaysian after Perlis and Penang. It is located in the southern region of the Malay Peninsular, on the Straits of Malacca. It borders Negeri Sembilan to the north and the state of Johor to the south. The capital is Malacca City, which is 148 km south east of Malaysia's capital city Kuala Lumpur, 235 km north west to Johor's largest city Johor Bahru and 95 km north west to Johor's second largest city Batu Pahat. This historical city centre has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 7 July 2008.

Project 9

Design...
D
esign, Project 9 - Come out with a design of pavillion which have four basic spaces: exhibition hall, sitting room, sales area and toilet facilities.

Design Concept
from Flight... to Transformation... to Sustainability...
We use the concept of the flight of swallow. It was undergoing a radical transformation into a structure which exudes interests of sustainability.

The design revolves around the flight of a swallow. With its streamlined body, it is projected forward towards a Vision. Maneuverability of a swallow symbolizes the strategies and plans of USM to direct itself to its Vision. Stressing transformation for a sustainable tomorrow, the purpose is to create a geometrically-unique structure which focuses on the instants of transformation rather than the product of transformation itself. To transform from a rigid body into a graceful creature of nature.

Design Strategy
To fly high is to achieve a certain level of success. In USM, we believe that dreams cannot be realized without first evolving into a better self. In accordance to these expectations, the intention is to create a universally-recognized landmark to represent the image of USM.
The main concept of the Pavilion revolves around the flight of a bird, or more specifically the swallow. This is a direct symbolistic approach to portray the vision of USM for a better tomorrow. The maneuverability and endurance of a swallow has been incorporated into the design of the Pavilion, which upholds a sustainable outlook.

The design of this pavilion also abides by deconstructivism. As form no longer follows function, the pavilion undergoes a series of extraordinary and unique fragmentation to comply loosely with the body of a swallow. The main focus here is to acknowledge the process of transformation before the product of transformation.
The modernistic elements of the Pavilion ensures the continuity of the structure at its location within the heart of USM.

 Model.... of i - USM

Notice that i have to learn to build up my self-esteem and for sure, all aspects of to be an architect must be instilled from now... and onwards... My dad used to reminding me that all aspects to be a professional is never easy to obtain. Get through what u met and u will find yourself living in a next level.

PUZZLE MYSELF

PUZZLE
Asking to doodle our own name which mine would be "CHEW HUNG NIEN". But i didn't actually doodle mine as i felt like not to do so. My very first impression and idea were from the art exhibition held by school of art whereby all artworks (STPM fellows' art) were done and displayed to public.
I saw it, i noticed it, i spent a pretty long period to observe it.

It's just a simple and attractive canvas, but it brings meaning and really a true vision out from the canvas. The situation is that a mother clutching her baby with the eyes of pity. The moment was so touched! And the materials used were rag, rotten plywood, newspaper and painting tools... One word to descript it: Awesome!!!

As for me, i had drawn out what i want to be. Wanting my life to be same as colorful as my puzzle, besides creating a void throughout the puzzle to show simplicity of life. The font words CHEW HUNG NIEN designed by myself, and so do the drawing.
Just an addition, sometimes we might never know what we actually want and need... who are we will be... how are we changed... and why...
Hmm...
Hoping someday i might find out.. haha...
As for me now, it's maintaining my own style, building up what i want to be.

This is me...

UNITY, we need it... We did it... Somehow i think we not really achieve that stage yet, that high level of unity. Somewhat we also started our very first step...

My Very First Visit

Analysis of GTWH BUILDING

Theme comes first... Asking why do we choose colonial as our theme?
Because it is pioneering, relating to a nonindependent or new territory... As simple as that? For me, actually i prefer culture but then also colonial. The main reason i was pulled towards COLONIAL is the existing buildings in George Town which is the capital of the state of Penang in Malaysia, giving me a sense of aesthetic value every time i zoom past that area (core zone).

Buildings chosen:
Penang Islamic Council

Logan Heritage Building

Penang State Museum
Visiting...

Discussing...

Producting...

It seem simple, not special at all, from what i heard, yeah really heart broken. In addition, comments received by the lecturers are frustrated and perturbed.

CRUEL could explain my feeling but it's benefit for me. ^^

As for me, being complaint about that almost 70% explaining about the ornament, i do admit that. But for sure, i learnt something new in structure, style etc. And the main thing: COOPERATION which i would like to highlight on as our group members are far more than i expected, they are so cooperative. Working as a group is more challenging than alone.

Elements which needed to take into artwork:

Analysis of HBP

PROJECT 6 : ANALYSIS OF HBP SPACES (COMPOSITION)
Given duration of one week time, we had more time than enough to complete our project as well. Searching information about Housing, Building and Planning is never a easy job. Surfing the internet, looking for the info of HBP and coming out with just little information. Without knowing the exact info which has to be inserted in the presentation board causes a big problem. But it's challenging. Furthermore, we know nothing much about the board. Fortunately, many info given in RUS104 facebook group and those info are really helpful. Thanks to Mr Azree as well.

My theme used to be INFORMATION. The reason i choose info is that i can probably get to know well about the buildings of HBP and in the way helping myself to create graphical report according to the info obtained online. Mainly i emphasis on the location and the climatic changes of HBP which is more precise in view as not to put all information in a A3 board. Quite small board actually~

Process of doing a A3 size info Board
Alfa Watercolour, the best watercolour i ever used

Though some drawings were done but i didn't inserted in the board as space limited

When seeing my friends' works, i said "wow..."
When glancing my own work, i sighed "oh..."
But then after thinking twice, just knowing that satisfaction is never enough.
But at least i had put effort on it...
Be kind to myself... Maybe it's just a START or INITIATOR for me.
Will be doing A BETTER one in future. Promised~

THE MASK... FEELING MASK
Feeling... What's my feeling towards this project? It's true i do not know what am i looking for... What's my feeling when enter a room or space? Room fully filled by scorpion? Room which having party? Or glorifying space? Creepy face? Living happy space? Sad space?

And yet, i don't think so... I will be thinking of space that i had already owned now, space for me to mature, to build up my personality, to enhance my working performance etc...
HBP Archi = My space

Feeling?
Yeah, i meet the "MITIGATION"... A sign of relief as well...
So, i name my mask as "MASK OF MITIGATION"...
Well, i am afraid of not involving in Archi-world... I wanna be an archi since i was in primary school and i had already convinced myself that i can make it someday. Eventually, I am here...

Yeah, really a sign of relief... Feeling of mitigation in terms of stress in academic, overestimated by others, being the best brother in family... Nothing to worry anymore, just being myself, being honest to myself and compete with myself, searching what i want to be... Sounded that i had gone through many difficulty in my life, for me -- yes, i had gone through all those obstacles, looking for more obstacles... and yet NO, i think i am the lucky one compared to those who even don't know how to write ABC or maybe don't even have the ability to see or read.

These are the steps to produce the MASK OF MITIGATION...
Step 1: Face covered with PE Food Wrap
Step 2: Making the first tissue layer
Step 3: Pasting the paper, reinforce as well
Step 4: Mask is done
Step 5: Paint by white dye
Step 6: Designing and drawing
Step 7: MASK OF MITIGATION is completed
Why did i choose this design and colour?
This is because human is equal in many aspects as being told by our lecturer. I choose curve design to manifest equilibrium of human being relate to nature. I use such many colours is to show the nature beauty.

Asking why am i closing the eyes and mouth as well?
Just simple, I AM IN THE STATE OF MITIGATION... Pretty satisfied with what i had owned now.

Some photos taken by friends during the process...
